Assistance to Seniors – Its Need and Resources

Abstract:
The authors of the article focus on the theme of assistance and support to seniors. In the concrete they compare images and expectations of recipients – seniors toward informal and formal system of assistance on one hand, and of formal providers – social workers about needs and expectations of seniors on the other hand. They analyse it on the background of the concepts of social work, which is based on the maintenance of autonomy and integration of seniors and they discuss it in the context of persisting myths about aging and old age. The authors use the results of the research project „Seniors in Society. Strategies to Retain Individual Autonomy“, supported by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic (Reg. Nb. 403/02/1182).
