Is the profession of a nurse an autonomous profession?

Abstract:
The text deals with the problems of professionalization of nursing and asks a question, whether the profession of a nurse is an autonomous profession. New demands that are made on the profession of a nurse issue above all from the orientation of professional activites of nurses at the complex of human health, and they are based on scientific knowledge of social sciences. The Act No. 96/2004 Coll. lays emphasis on a nurse with academic education, which tends to restructuring of roles that should be fulfilled by a doctor, a qualified nurse and other health professionals. The article briefly discusses the professionalization of nursing in developed western countries, and gives opinions of some authors of the above-mentioned development. In conclusion the author reflects on the situation in professionalization of nursing in the Czech.
