Self-Help and Support Groups in the Czech Republic: Survey, Risks of Further Evolution and Policy Measures

Abstract:
Self-help and support groups as a scientific topic are underestimated in the Czech Republic. The paper thus aims to describe the situation self-help and support groups are in via an internet research. The research included cca 2 000 social services providers and organisations identified by internet broker. A more detailed focus was put on 111 support or self-help groups. Then terminology, thematic typology and institutional background are considered. Finally, the risks of further evolution of self-help and support groups are identified and the appropriate policy measures are proposed.
