Social Workers in Schools
Tatiana Matulayová, Ilona Pešatová
Abstract:
A school counselling system began to develop in the 1970s. Since that time, however, the student population along with the public order have changed. There has been an increase in the number of pupils from a socially disadvantaged environment, from families with a variety of problems in social interactions and pupils with behavioural disorders. The social problems of pupils negatively affect their school results. Pedagogical and psychological interventions do not respond to all the needs of pupils and their families. The purpose of this paper is to report on the results of the research. The basic research questions answered in paper are as follows: (1) Which areas of problems are considered the domain of social workers by the representative of individual professions? (2) Which competences would the representative of individual professions share with social workers? The results of the research indicate the growth potential of school social work which is discussed in a more detailed way in the conclusions of the paper. Keywords:
