Institutionalization of Social Work and Self-awareness of Social Workers
Ladislav Otava
Abstract:
Social work is not in the eyes of the non-professional and professional public in the Czech Republic clearly defined. The process of recognition of social work as a profession concerning the Czech society was developing until the mid-20th century, but was interrupted in the early 50s due to the Communist totalitarianism. Currently the process continues again. Because of the “liquid time”, there is the question: “What is social work?” This paper aims to contribute to the topic of firmer establishment of the social work within the field of social work and society in the definition of the complementary role of self-awareness in the process of institutionalization of the social work. Keywords:
institutionalization, self-awareness, identity, social work
