The Asset of the Institute of M. R. Štefánik for the Education of Social Workers in Slovakia

Abstract:
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the paper is to provide information on events related to the origin and development of the Institute of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, which activities are related to the beginnings of education in social work in Slovakia. THEORETICAL BASE: Theoretical background is the history of social work, which forms an immanent part of the science of social work. METHODS: The study was based on a direct historical method, the subject of which were archival materials and publications that focused on the work of the M. R. Štefánik Institute. OUTCOMES: Based on our research, we have gained information on the activities that preceded the establishment of the Institute, the educational objectives, the curriculum for the social-health school and also some of the personalities who were related with the establishment of the Institute. SOCIAL WORK IMPLICATIONS: We see the benefit of the study primarily in strengthening knowledge from the history of Slovak social work and secondary in strengthening the professional identity of Slovak social workers.
