Transitional employment as a form of vocational rehabilitation in serious mental illnesses

Abstract:
The author deals with a development and basic characteristics of transitional employment as a form of vocational rehabilitation in persons with serious mental illness. The article also summarizes a methodology of transitional employment and results of evaluation studies in abroad. Next part of this article is dedicated to experiences with transitional employment in our conditions together with an evaluation of an outcome of transitional employment in a cohort of 50 clients included to this program. There has been an increase of independent employment days, of clients’ earnings and a decrease in psychiatric hospitalization days in a one-year follow up of clients who finished the program.
