Institutionalisation of the Informal Caring´s Support from the Social Work Perspective – Case study Slovakia

Kvetoslava Repková

Abstract:
The study aims to analyse an approach of how the support of informal caring and informal carers is institutionalised in Slovakia. The balance between protection and support of both, informal caregivers’ and care recipients’ rights, is highlighted as a core concept of such institutionalisation. To analyse the national support domains, the author applies the European Charter for Family Carers (2009). Based on both, the available data sources, as well as her own research findings, she concludes that a majority of recommended support domains for informal carers are institutionalised, at least declaratively. On the other hand, the support is more general rather than individually shaped and it is intended mainly for care allowance recipients. As an example, she highlights the way informal care support is institutionalised within an early intervention scheme for small children with disabilities and their families, including roles of social workers.
